Coffee- A Unique Medium
A cup of coffee is part of a morning ritual for many of us, with varying preferences for our favourite roast. You may reach for a highly caffeinated blonde roast or prefer the bold flavour of a dark roast, and if you look closer, you may notice that different blends can have different underlying hues. The natural varying sepia tones of coffee make it the perfect medium to capture classic beauty.
A custom "paint" using your favourite blend can add a level of personalization to a piece, especially for a coffee lover. Each coffee paint can also be unique in not only the underlying hues but the way it behaves on either canvas or water-colour paper. Some beans contain more oil which will affect the behaviour, as well as the process used to create the paint, which can produce variances in pigment and consistency.
Canvas allows for a notable depth, texture, and fine detail using unique techniques I've developed. This material and medium also comes with distinctive challenges. One drop of misplaced coffee, a line that's slightly too thick, the wrong consistency of "paint" are all examples of what can result in redoing hours of work. The larger a painting is, the greater the challenge.
Once each canvas is complete, several coats of UV protective varnish are applied over several days before the painting can receive its final touches.
